Frequently Asked Questions
Below you’ll find answers to common questions about our West German Showline, long coat German Shepherd breeding program, early development practices, and puppy placement process.
1. What type of German Shepherds do you breed?
We breed West German Showline German Shepherds with a focus on long coats. Our dogs are bred for health, stable temperaments, correct structure, and sound movement in accordance with German SV standards.
2. What does “German SV standard” mean?
SV refers to the Verein für Deutscher Schäferhund, Germany’s official German Shepherd breed club. The SV standard emphasizes functional structure, strong nerves, confident temperament, and responsible breeding.
3. How long have you been involved with German Shepherds?
My journey with German Shepherds began over 20 years ago. That experience shapes our program, from pairing decisions to early development and long-term puppy success.
4. Are your dogs suited for families, service work, or protection?
Yes. Our dogs are bred to be versatile and stable. They are well suited for active family companions and may also show potential as service prospects or personal protection dogs, depending on temperament, training, and placement goals.
5. Are all of your puppies long coat?
Our program focuses on long coat pairings, though coat type can vary based on genetics. Expected coat outcomes are discussed in advance for each pairing.
6. How do I apply for a puppy?
The first step is contacting us through the website. We’ll follow up to learn more about your lifestyle, expectations, and the type of home you’re looking to provide.
7. Do you have a waitlist?
Yes, depending on demand and timing. Waitlist details and expectations are discussed directly.
8. When will your next litter be available?
Planned litters are listed on our Upcoming Pairings page. All dates are estimates, as health and development always come first.
9. Can I choose my puppy?
Puppy placement is guided by temperament, confidence level, structure, and home environment. Our goal is the best long-term match for both the puppy and the family.
10. Do you offer in-person visits?
Yes. We offer in-person visits when appropriate. For families farther away, we also provide FaceTime calls along with frequent photo and video updates.
11. What early neurological and sensory work do puppies receive?
Puppies receive Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI), along with early handling and age-appropriate exposure during critical developmental periods.
12. Do you introduce crates and potty habits early?
Yes. We begin early crate introduction starting at 3 weeks of age. Litter training is also introduced early, with the start of outdoor potty exposure beginning around 5 weeks of age.
13. How do you prepare puppies for grooming?
Puppies are bathed every 4 days starting at 4 weeks of age to help desensitize them to grooming. Nail trimming begins at 3 days old and continues every 4 days to promote comfort with routine handling.
14. What diet are your dogs raised on?
Our dogs are raised on a balanced raw diet as part of our commitment to premium care, proper development, and long-term health.
15. What is included when puppies go home?
Each puppy goes home with a puppy package that includes a toy, training treats, a blanket scented with mom and littermates, FortiFlora probiotics, and 30 days of complimentary pet insurance (activation required).
16. Do your puppies come with a health warranty?
Yes. All puppies are placed with a health warranty. Full details are provided separately and should be reviewed before placing a deposit.

Health and longevity are a priority in our program. Testing and certifications are discussed per pairing and available upon request.
18. Do you place puppies outside your local area?
Yes. We place puppies in suitable homes across Canada.
19. Do you ship puppies?
Yes. We ship Canada-wide via WestJet Cargo. When possible, we may also personally fly puppies to their new homes to ensure a smooth transition.

21. What ongoing costs should new owners expect?
